The Empire Football League recently elected Dave Burch as League Commissioner for the 2004 season at its Annual Meeting in Albany, NY. Prior to taking the helm, Dave served as the league’s Secretary/Deputy Commissioner since 1987. The Empire Football League, established in 1969 in Upstate New York, celebrates its 35th Anniversary this year as one of the oldest, most competitive leagues in the USA.
Dave Burch began his semipro football career with the Triple Cities (TC) Jets of Binghamton, New York in 1970 and was a five-time All Empire Football League (EFL) player at defensive end and linebacker. Dave subsequently served as coach of the TC Jets, was named EFL Coach of the Year 1987 and was inducted into the Jets Hall of Fame in 2002. Dave, a member of the American Football Association’s Semi Pro Football Hall of Fame, also currently serves as that organization’s Executive Vice President.
Dave Burch, a native of Richmond, VA, is a 1969 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, in Charlotte, NC where played football as a member of the Golden Bulls. Dave currently resides in Endicott, NY.
